Would you like to help out with this research? There are tons of things that need to get done but I just don't always have the time. Researching people can take a lot of time so I would LOVE any help you are willing to offer
The three major sources of information that I use are, birth and death certificates and census records. Census records are good, but they almost never list a womans maiden name and usually only show the state or country where someone was born.
They can also be inaccurate, not sure why but I have seen wrong ages, DOBs and even birth places. The best records are birth and death certificates. The trouble is that they are hard to find. For instance, I usually tell people that I was born in the town I grew up in,
Lancaster, New York, but they would not have my birth certificate because I was born at a hospital in the City of Buffalo. Same goes for death certificates, they are files in the EXACT location where the person died. This is not as easy as it sounds as Western New York, like many places, is filled with tiny towns and villages that
are very close together. Many times you find yourself calling several towns or villages just to find correct place. Every place seems to have a different rule on giving this information too. Some will confirm over the phone while others make you come in person and fill out a form
just to find out if they even have the info.
Below you will find a list of things that can be done to push this research even farther. If you have found any of this information on this web site useful please try to find the time to persue one of these items listed and share this informaiton with me so that I can put it here to share it with everyone. This list is in rough alphabetical order by last hame then first. Looking for Birth or Death Certificates
