John H. Kelley
John H. Kelley of Hudson died Wednesday, June 3, at Albany Medical Center. He was 83. Born in Enfield, CT on August 6, 1925, he was the son of the late Charles and Emma (Heideman) Kelley. John was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army’s 77th Infantry Division in the Eastern Mandates, New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. For his service, he earned the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. John was retired from Harder’s Express in Claverack. He was Chairman of the former Hudson Parking Committee, Past-Chairman of the Hudson Z.B.A, Governor and life-member of the Loyal Order of Moose #1184, Past-President and life-member of Washington Hose Co. #3, life-member of the Federation of Polish Sportsmen, and member of Nativity/St.Mary’s Church in Stuyvesant Falls, the Hudson Elks Lodge #787, V.F.W. Post 1314, American Legion Post #184, Disabled American Veterans, and the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and Holy Name Society.
He is survived by his loving wife, Josie C. (Squillace) Kelley, son John J. Kelley of Manhattan, daughters Beverly (Louis) Martino of Stuyvesant Falls and Donna Kelley of Livonia, NY, brother Charles Kelley of Hudson, and sister Margaret Houghtaling of Hudson. He also is survived by grandchildren Louis Martino Jr., Kelley Jo Spodris, Michael Martino, Amy Jo Glovanovitch, Casey Kelley and John Kelley Jr., and 4 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be on Friday evening from 4-7:00pm at Valenti and Richards Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday 9am at Nativity St. Mary’s Church Stuyvesant Falls, Fr. Frank O’Connor officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Firemen’s Home, 125 Harry Howard Ave., Hudson, NY 12534, or to Nativity St. Mary’s Church, Rte. 9, Stuyvesant Falls, NY 12174.
