Narrative

Wagoner, Janet K.

MADISON – Janet Wagoner passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at Agrace HospiceCare.

Janet "Jan" was born in Depew, N.Y., on March 21, 1931, to parents Harold and Genevieve Kelly. She met the love of her life, Brad, in Geneva, N.Y., while attending William Smith College. They attended a dance with different dates but ended up sharing the last dance together, and the rest was history. They married in 1950 and had 62 wonderful years of marriage. They moved many times due to Brad's promotions through Aetna and made many dear friends along the way.

After the children were older, Jan returned to college and received her teaching certificate from Northern Illinois College while living in Naperville, Ill. She taught school at Washington Junior High in Naperville and later at West Des Moines Junior High. She enjoyed her years of teaching and being a part of her students' lives. Jan and Brad settled in Madison, Wis., in 1986, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Jan was an active member of Who's New in Madison and Newcomers Club in Springfield. She participated in many activities including Book Club, Couples Gourmet, Antique Study Group and loved playing Mahjong with friends. Jan loved traveling, a good book, crossword puzzles, and scrabble. Jan hosted many elegant dinner parties and was an excellent cook. She was a great listener, loyal friend, a generous spirit and always willing to help solve a problem for others, no matter how big or small.

Jan is survived by her three children, Susan Wagoner, Linda Wagoner and Peter Wagoner (JJ); sisters, Marsha Gray (Bob) and Genevieve E. Brady; three grandchildren, Jefferson Stanley, Eli Stanley (Lupe), and Rachael Zerwer (Ryan); and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bradford Wagoner; brother, Stephen Kelly; and sister, Marylynn Kelly.

Services will be held at a later date.

Jan supported her family with all her heart. Even at the end, her eyes would twinkle and a smile crossed her face when family came to visit. She enriched our lives and not a minute, not an hour, not a day will go by that we won't think of her…………her memory will never fade.

A memorial donation may be made to All Saints Assisted Living, c/o Elder Span Mgt., 2445 Darwin Road, #109, Madison, WI 53704.
