Rensselaer Falls, Nov. 15. We have to announce the death of George B. Pike, a veteran of the Civil war, whose death occurred Nov. 2nd, in Gouverneur after an illness of several weeks, caused by a general breaking up of the system, aged 73 years. He was a former resident of this place. Mr. Pike was born in the town of Whitenham, Windham county, Vt. When but 18 months old his parents moved to this section, settling in the town of Rossie, on what is known as the Samuel Foster farm, near Keene's, where they lived for many years. On Aug. 27, 1855, Mr. Pike was married to Miss Sophia Holland. To them nine children were born. Mrs. Pike died March 18, 1876, and a year after he married Miss Anna Ginn, and they moved from Dekalb to Rensselaer Falls. To them two children were born. The second wife died in 1880. On Aug. 24,1884, he was again united in marriage to Electa Barber, to whom one daughter was born and who survives him.

Mr. Pike enlisted in the Civil war in 1864, and served in the famous Battery D, First New York Light Artillery, until he lost his right arm at the battle of Five Forks. In 1S89 he moved into the village, where he conducted a retail coal business for seven years. He moved to Gouverneur six years ago. In politics Mr. Pike was a loyal Republican. He was a hard worker in the ranks of his party for many years.

Besides his widow, he is survived by four sons, William, of Gouverneur; Webster, of this place; Jerome, o£ Morristown, and George, of Syracuse; and six daughters, Mrs. Benjamin Johnson, of Rensselaer Falls; Mrs. Frank Hurst and Mrs. Turner Church, of Endfield, N. H.; Mrs. Charles Foster, of West Canaan, N. H.; Mrs. Frank Spencer, of Fort Covington, and Mrs. Emery Clark, of Gouverneur. The remains were brought to this place for burial.

The funeral was from the M. E. church and interment was made in the family plot in the cemetery, Rev. J. S. Wilds, of Gouverneur, officiating.
