Narrative

Otto Weichmann, 80, of Allen Road, Chaffee, died Thursday, December 22, 2005, at the V.A. Medical Center in Buffalo.

Born in Buffalo on March 3, 1925, he was a son of Michael and Anna (Heil) Weichmann. On February 12, 1947, in Delevan, he married the former Jean Dickey, who survives.

Mr. Weichmann was the owner-operator of Chaffee Glass Works in Chaffee.

During World War II, he served from 1943 to 1947 with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Pacific Theater, and took part in the liberation of Guam from the Japanese. Mr. Weichmann took great pride in the time he spent serving his country, and was very supportive of all veterans and veterans' causes. He also helped obtain local funding for the long overdue National World War II Memorial erected in Washington, D.C., which was opened to the public in April of 2004. He is listed there as one of its honorees.

Mr. Weichmann enjoyed people, and was always ready with a story or joke to share.

He was a member of the Chaffee Oddfellows, the Chaffee-Sardinia Memorial Fire Department, and the V.A. American Heroes. He had attended the Chaffee Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gary (Mindy) Weichmann of Neenah, Wisconsin; a sister, Katherine (Bob) Kingsland of Zephyrhills, Florida; a brother, Fritz Weichmann of Protection; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
